weekdayは月~金で、weekendが土日が世界共通だと思っていたら、イスラム教では金曜日が聖なる日で安息日のため木曜、金曜がお休みの日なのです。しかし、アラブ首長国連邦は、経済、旅行業などに対応するため、土日休みに変更するという記事でした。
これを機に西洋化していくのでしょうか？

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that its official workweek will move to Monday through Friday, a significant change that means the Islamic nation will have the same schedule as Western countries.
UAEは公表した---公式に週の就労日を月曜から金曜に移すと。この重大な変更は、イスラム国が西洋の国に合わせることを意味する。
The decision, which will take effect in January 2022, makes the UAE one of the few countries in the Middle East to operate on Western hours instead of on a Sunday through Thursday week. Lebanon and Turkey also follow a Monday to Friday workweek.

The change comes as the UAE is trying to increase its business and tourist appeal after the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic and as it faces more regional competition, particularly* from Saudi Arabia.

The Emirati government said the decision makes the UAE "the first nation in the world to introduce a national working week shorter than the global five-day week" — because Friday will only be a half-day.
