Made by a British company called Ox, the truck has been produced to help people in poorer rural areas, such as in sub-Saharan Africa, move goods across rough terrain.

Ox allows customers — mostly farmers and traders — to rent space for their goods on board one of their vehicles using an app and negotiate a price with the driver.

Ox currently operates 12 trucks in western Rwanda, where rural dirt roads are so rough that large vehicles struggle, and people commonly use bicycles and motorbikes to transport goods for long distances to sell them.

They can travel up to 170 kilometers before needing to be recharged, and private charging stations have been installed in the area.

Francine Uwamahoro, from Ox in Rwanda, said that people in rural areas depend on agriculture and the trucks were helping those who have been left behind by infrastructure developments. She told CNN: "Ox is giving them power to grow economically."
