今回の記事には、ウクライナ大統領ゼレンスキーの前職業、俳優だったころについても書かれてます。
湾岸戦争直前、人質の日本人の救出のため、外務省の反対を押し切って単身でイラクへ飛んだ、プロレスラー政治家に転身アントニオ猪木氏を思い出した。勇気ある行動だった。
窮地に陥った人にとって猪木氏が頼もしい存在であったように、ウクライナ国民にとっては、ゼレンスキー氏がどれほど心強い存在であるか計り知れない。
このような人たちこそ真のリーダーだと思う。
政界を上手く操り、自分の党、立場、ポジションを守るだけの政治家が多い中、盾となり国民を守る姿に胸を打たれた。
たったひとりの人間プーチンさえ止めることができれば、攻撃が止まるのに。それができないから歯がゆい。

Volodymyr Zelenskyy: TV Star to Wartime Leader
ゼレンスキー,TVスターから戦時リーダーへ
When former comedian and actor Volodymyr Zelenskyy became president of Ukraine in 2019, he made a promise to the nation in his inaugural speech:
元コメディアン、元俳優のヴォロディミル・ゼレンスキーは、2019年ウクライナの大統領となり、就任演説で国民に約束したした。
"Throughout my entire life, I've tried to do everything so Ukrainians smiled. This was how I felt in my heart, and it was not only my job, it was my mission. In the next five years, I will do everything so that you, Ukrainians, don't cry."
”一生を通して、万時がうまく行くようにする、ウクライナ人を笑顔にするために。これは私の心から感じたことで、仕事としてだけでなく、使命だと感じる。これから5年、どんなことにも誠意を尽くす、あなた達ウクライナ人はもう泣くことはない。”
Now, less than three years after his election, people have been looking back on these words as Zelenskyy has transformed from an entertainer to a wartime leader.
選挙後3年もたたずにゼレンスキーは、エンターテイナーから戦時のリーダーとなった今、この言葉を思い出した。
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
And although US officials offered to transport Zelenskyy out of the country, the 44-year-old president refused.
ロシアがウクライナを侵略し、ＵＳはゼレンスキーに国外への脱出を提案したが、彼は断った。
"I need ammunition, not a ride," he is reported to have said.
”弾薬や武器は必要だが、乗り物（国から逃れるための車、飛行機）は必要ない。”
Zelenskyy has become a symbol of strength and resistance for many, and is being hailed as a hero by people around the world.
彼は、多くの国民のための強靭と忍耐の象徴になり、世界中からヒーローとして賞賛されている。
But many doubted him at the start of his political career.
しかし、彼が政治生命のスタートを切った時点ではこれほどは信用されてなかった。
Before his election, Zelenskyy was famous for his role in the TV comedy Servant of the People.
選挙前は、彼はTVコメディ番組 Servant of the Peopleでおなじみだった。
He played a teacher who gets elected president /after a video of him speaking against corrupt politicians goes viral.
汚職した政治家たちのことを訴えているビデオが拡散されて、結局大統領に選挙で当選してしまった教師役を彼は演じた。
Zelenskyy was aware that he would be compared to the character he played, and even named his political party after the show.
彼は気付いていた---彼が演じた先生役と比べられるだろうと。彼の実際の政党名をその番組で使われてた（政党名？）から名付けた。
Like the teacher, the real Zelenskyy also promised to fight against corruption.
その先生役のように、実際に彼もまた、政界の汚職と戦った。
His entertainment career goes back to his days studying law at Kryvyi Rih Economic Institute.
彼の芸能活動の前、学生のころは法律をKryvyi Rih Economic Instituteで法律を勉強した。
While there in 1997, he took part in a comedy competition called KVN with his group, Kvartal 95.
一方、1997年（就任する2年前）にはコメディコンテストKVN にもグループで参加していた。
The group continued to appear on KVN until 2003, when Zelenskyy co-founded Studio Kvartal 95.
そのグループは2003年まで出場したが、その時、彼はStudio Kvartal を共同設立した。
It would go on to become one of Ukraine's most successful production companies, and Zelenskyy also acted in various movies.
その会社は有名な成功を収めたプロダクションとなっている。また彼も俳優としていろいろな映画に出演した。
He is now using videos not to entertain, but to rally his country.
In one of the video updates he has made/ since the invasion began, he sent a message to his people that echoed his inaugural speech:
今はビデオを娯楽としてではなく、国民への呼びかけに使っている。
侵略が始まってから作成したビデオの一つ、あるメーッセージを国民へ送った。それは就任演説と共鳴した（演説で約束した通りのことをしている）
"I'm here. We won't lay down our arms. We will defend our state because our weapon is our truth. And the truth is this is our country, our land, our children. And we will defend all of that."
”私はここにいる。われらは武器は置かない・降伏しない。我が国を守るために戦うのは正しいことだ。実際にここは我が国であることは事実、我が土地、我が子供たちで（ロシアのものではない）。だからそのすべてを戦ってでも守る。”
